Final Thoughts

I hope I'll see you Sunday at church. Here's one more thing to get your juices flowing for Sunday: a blog about churches and change. Students of all ages, don't forget your backpack blessing! Young, old, grade school, preschool, college-you name it-bring your backpack or tote. And if you haven't yet made plans for Saturday, Michelle Knollhoff's voice studio is holding its first ever voice recital at the church at noon on Saturday. Support our Soprano Section Leader and her students! See you in church. Annie

Annie - Thanks for the thoughts and for sending along Gary Hamel's article about organized religion's management problem. I do not have any claim to special study or in depth understanding of this issue only a few thoughts. There is much in the article that rings true with my experience. The need for basic "training" in ethical ideas and the positive benefits for the individual and community to be derived from them. Historically the church and family have been instrumental in this important task. Secondly, hierarchical organizational structure is disappearing from the business sector in which I participate. It is just too slow to react and too slow when a new situation requires a quick decision. The alternative is called "matrix" and it has its own challenges among them is a element of chaos that drives some folks crazy. The benefit of a matrix structure is that everyone is engaged and broad participation is the norm. Will
