CROP Walk

Don't forget this Sunday is the 3rd annual CROP Walk.  You can still sign-up to join the Faith Des Peres team.  This is a great way to raise money for hunger, meet other church members, and get a little exercise.  To sign-up, follow the link on the CROP walk page listed under Upcoming Events on the church website: www.faithdesperes.org.  Thank you for your support.

Morning Worship on October 11

Last week the sermon was about divorce and this week it's about wealth.  Will these difficult readings from Mark ever end?  Jesus is as plain-spoken as ever when he tells the disciples it's easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than a wealthy person to enter the kingdom of heaven.  Is there a loophole in his saying?  Can I try to stuff a large animal into a small opening?  Pretty please?  And if I can't, where's the grace?  Come Sunday and learn with us.

Adult Discussion Group for October 11

The book study of Stephen Patterson’s Beyond the Passion: Rethinking the Death and Life of Jesus, will begin on October 11th, and continue on October 18th, November 1st, and November 8th.  Patterson is the Professor of New Testament at Eden Seminary, a member of the Jesus Seminar, and a leading New Testament scholar.  His book is short (131 pages), quite readable, and offers exciting new ways to think about Jesus’ death and life.  Ron Scott will lead these discussions.  Copies of the book have been distributed, but if you want one let Ron or Suzanne know and we'll order more.  You can also post a reply here.

Wednesday Food and Forum

The Wednesday Food and Forum group will reconvene on October 28 and run through November 18.  Anyone is welcome to join the group!  We meet at 6 pm for supper and then discuss our "study" from 6:30-7:30 pm.  In preparation for the upcoming holiday season, we're focusing on Advent.  Post a reply if you'd like to attend or sign-up in church.  Readings are distributed via e-mail.
