Mark Your Calendars!

Things are all abuzz here at church.  It was great seeing so many of you at church on Sunday!  And isn't the new Gathering Space beautiful?  Wasn't it fun to be in there for coffee hour?

Now that schools are in full swing, so is the church.  Please mark your calendars!  I hope I'll see you at these events! You can RSVP by leaving a comment on the blog, replying to this e-mail, calling the church . . .you get the idea.

Saturday, September 12, Food Pack at Food Outreach from 8 am to about 11 am.  Help pack food-what could be easier?!

Tuesday, September 15, 5-8 pm, Sweet Tomatoes Restaurant (9846 Watson Road).  15% of the proceeds raised from us will go to Food Outreach.  You gotta eat, right?  May as well help a good cause at the same time.  Don't forget your blue flier!

Saturday, September 19, Church Work Day, 8-12.  You know how, when you have a big party and you need to clean your house from top to bottom and make it really sparkly clean?  Well, that's what we're doing in preparation for the October 18 dedication of the Gathering Space.  In case you didn't notice it's really (cough, cough) dusty around here from the construction work.

And don't forget we're worshipping at the old church this weekend.  We're celebrating the baptism of Elizabeth Benben!

See you Sunday! Annie

Final Thoughts

I hope I'll see you Sunday at church.  Here's one more thing to get your juices flowing for Sunday: a blog about churches and change.  Students of all ages, don't forget your backpack blessing!  Young, old, grade school, preschool, college-you name it-bring your backpack or tote.  And if you haven't yet made plans for Saturday, Michelle Knollhoff's voice studio is holding its first ever voice recital at the church at noon on Saturday. Support our Soprano Section Leader and her students!  See you in church. Annie

The Great Wall of Faith Des Peres . . .

Has been taken down!  Yes, that's right.  The plywood that's been temporarily in the library all summer is now down.  The library is now completely open to the Gathering Space.  And if I may say, the pictures do not do this beautiful new space justice.  To see this beautiful space, you need to come on Sunday!

This week all of the window panes have been installed; the asphalt for the parking in front and on the west side for the handicapped spaces is complete; work on the new west side, power operated doors has begun; cabinets could be installed; bathroom fixtures are in and there is running water (!); painting continues; and the drywall is up in the "old nursery" (soon to be the youth lounge).  Next week the carpet goes in, the AC goes on, and the doors to the sanctuary and library will be installed.  We are nearing the finish line!

Mark your calendars for the Gathering Space dedication on Sunday, October 18 during morning worship at 10:30 am.  That afternoon we will host an open house from 1:00-3:00.

And don't forget the congregational meeting following worship this Sunday.  See you Sunday!

Blessing of the Backpacks this Sunday

Join us this Sunday as we celebrate students and teachers who are going back to school. Worship this Sunday will include a special "Blessing of the Backpacks" for students of any age who are beginning or going back to school.  There will also be a recognition for the teachers who are teaching them. We hope you'll join us this Sunday for worship at 10:30 am

Scripture readings this Sunday can be found here: Sunday's readings. The reading from Mark is especially important this Sunday with our emphasis on going back to school. In this reading Jesus argues with the religious authorities because Jesus is in favor of change. Some people like change (such as a change in routine, like going back to school) and some people have a hard time with change (like having to get up early to catch the school bus). How do you react to change? What does Jesus say about change? Come on Sunday at 10:30 and learn with us.

Guess What?

Faith Des Peres has entered the 21st century with a new and improved website and a blog.  The blog is the place to learn more about what is happening at church, both on Sundays and during the week.  You can subscribe to the blog by following the link on the right hand side of the website.  You can also post comments on the blog, if you have something to say.  And, for all you writers out there, let me know if you have a subject about which you want to write.  I don't want to be the only one blogging!  Have you read something interesting you want to share?  Do you want someone to know what your church team or committee is doing?  Are you looking for volunteers or trying to drum up interest in an event?  Then this could be the forum for you.

And facebookers, look for Faith Des Peres to be on Facebook soon.  Yes, it's true, we really are entering the 21st century!
