Sunday's scripture from the Gospel of Luke is about prayer and the need to not lose heart. Luke talked about prayer more than any other Gospel writer. He also stressed our need to be persistent in our prayer life so that we get what we ask for, but it doesn't always turn out that way, does it? Have you ever had a question about prayer? Perhaps this week you'll get some answers. See you in church!
And a word about Sunday's music:
Sunday's voluntaries, anthem, offertory music, and response to the benediction were written by British composers. Thomas Tallis (ca. 1505-1585) was a composer and performer in the time of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Queen Mary, and Elizabeth I. Although himself a Roman Catholic, he was one of the first church musicians to write anthems in the English language for the new Church of England. William Byrd (1540-1623) was a pupil of Tallis. Orlando Gibbons (ca. 1583-1625) was organist at Westminster Abbey. Byrd and Gibbons both composed English language anthems in addition to keyboard music. Peter Warlock (1894-1930) was a music critic and composer best known for his songs.
