Adult Discussion Group, 9 am

Annie Epling will lead the discussion this Sunday with a recap of General Assembly.  In addition to hearing about her experience, we'll look at all of the items coming to the presbyteries for their affirmative or negative vote, as well as look at other issues that made headlines.  If you have questions about the General Assembly, now is the time to get them answered.  Come for coffee and conversation on Sunday.

It's CROP Walk Time

The 4th annual St. Louis CROP Walk is Sunday, October 24.  You can find more information about the walk here: http://www.faithdesperes.org/crop-walk/

We need walkers and spirit walkers!  Sign-up online following the above link or sign-up in the Gathering Space.

All money raised goes to Church World Service.  After the walk, everyone is invited to the Epling house for a chili supper.  Get a little exercise and do a good deed all at the same time!

Turning Shoes Into Water

Bring your old shoes to church!  Henry Epling is collecting old shoes for a fellow Boy Scout who is working on his Eagle Scout award.  The Scout is collecting old shoes and then donating them to Shoeman Water Projects, a non-profit organization based in St. Louis.

The Shoeman gives a second life to the shoes, selling them to exporters. The money from the sale of the shoes is used to purchase well drilling rigs, water purification systems, and other supplies to bring clean, fresh water to those in need.

Having collected over 450,000 pairs of shoes in the last two years, the non-profit Shoeman Water Projects has sent four water drilling rigs to Kenya with water filtration systems in the works for Haiti.

Morning Worship, 10:30 am

Rev. Pat Cleeland, Parish Associate, is preaching this Sunday while Annie is in Ohio for a family wedding.  Her message comes from Matthew 15:21-28, the story of the Canaanite woman who begged Jesus for food (and at first he refused).

Upcoming worship services of which to take note:

Sunday, October 31 we'll celebrate Reformation Sunday and you will have a chance to post your 95 theses to the church door, a la Martin Luther.

Sunday, November 7, we'll celebrate All Saint's Day.

If you're looking for copies of past sermons, they can be found here: http://www.faithdesperes.org/sermons/

See you in church!

Adult Disucssion Group, 9 am

This week's guest speaker (Oct. 10) is the Reverend Ed Wicklein, who is a retired pastor and a member of the presbytery's History Team.  He will present a "Brief History of the Presbyterian Church from Colonial America to the Present Day".  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Presbyterian Church!

Next week, Pastor Annie Epling will give a recap of this year's General assembly meeting.  This is your chance to ask questions about what happened at GA and the items of business coming from the GA to the presbyteries for their approval.
